FH Stories | The Burlington Hotel

Since 1893, The Burlington Hotel has been a part of the fabric of Folkestone, and for the last 26 years the hotel has been under the ownership of Daniel Sangiuseppe and his family.

With lockdown easing and hotels beginning to reopen, Daniel shared with us The Burlington Hotel’s story and why its location in Folkestone is fantastic for those looking for a staycation in Kent.

As part of its regeneration, The Burlington Hotel received a top-to-toe £2 million refurbishment in 2018 to bring the beautiful and historic property to a 4-star standard. “We wanted to create a space that honoured the hotel’s original 19th century charm and character, whilst giving our guests 21st century amenities and style, as well as the latest mod cons. We also made the decision to join forces with the Best Western Plus brand to become one of its top premium properties.”

Daniel continues, “We are a very ethical, eco-conscious driven family and business, which was at the forefront of our entire refurbishment scheme.” Daniel adds, “We have introduced vegetarian and vegan menus in the Bay Tree Bar & Grill, which use ingredients sourced from local Folkestone companies. We opted against the use of leather, silk and wool to use alternative fabrics, and selected cruelty-free toiletries for our guests use.”

As many hotels across the UK start to reopen, The Burlington Hotel has left no stone unturned to ensure all customers experience a relaxing, worry-free seaside getaway. “We have put new procedures, cleaning standards and training in place, to help reassure guests and rebuild their confidence to visit us. Customer safety and experience is of the utmost importance, so we have introduced new measures to help reduce touch points, including digital check-ins and 24-hour communications with our team via WhatsApp.”

For those looking for a staycation in the UK, Daniel shares, “There is so much that Folkestone offers that makes it an idyllic destination. From fantastic accommodation, a great food and drink scene and picturesque natural spaces; from the coast to the countryside, visitors can relax and recharge with the fresh sea air, walks along the Leas with scenes of beautiful buildings and greenery, or even visiting the beach, Creative Quarter or Folkestone Harbour Arm.” Daniel continues, “There are some great local attractions like Port Lympne Reserve and The Warren Country Park. Folkestone is less than an hour from London by train which makes it a really appealing location for a short break without having to use the car.”

“We feel proud, privileged and honoured to be at the helm of The Burlington Hotel, and look forward to welcoming back our guests.”
