Take a leisurely drive through the marsh’s pretty villages and rolling countryside en route to your chosen accommodation, and soak up the Kentish scenery. Why not stock up on some local beers from the Romney Marsh Brewery in New Romney on your way? You can pre-order to collect at their shop before 5pm, so you’ll be set for the weekend!

Book a table at The Pilot at Dungeness for a proper fish and chip supper as the sun sets, and then take a walk on the beach to drink in the incredible night sky. With its stretching horizon and minimal light pollution, Romney Marsh is one of the UK’s best stargazing spots.

Romney and Hythe Locations

Saturday

Start your day with a visit to the eco-friendly Romney Marsh Visitor Centre to learn more about your surroundings and plan your day’s adventures. You can be as active or as relaxed as you like on Romney Marsh: fishing, golf, water sports, go karting, or a cross country walk – the choice is yours.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try your hand at wake-boarding or water skiing at the Action Water Sports Centre, put the pedal to the metal at Lydd Kart Circuit, or just enjoy a round of golf at one of the three beautiful golf courses at Littlestone and Lydd.

If you’re travelling with kids, Greatstone’s sandy beach is a must see and little ones won’t want to miss a trip to beloved seaside resort Dymchurch with its popular amusement park. The restored Martello Tower No 24 is another historic highlight in Dymchurch.

After an active morning and afternoon, have a stroll along New Romney’s pretty high street and be sure to pick up a local history book about the area’s raucous past with smugglers! See if you can get your hands on some luxurious Romney Marsh Wools products – they even have Shepherds Huts for an overnight stay. If cooking for yourself, make a stop at The Old Tractor Shed Farm Shop, near Brookland, for fresh local produce.

Sunday

Make it a lazy, strolling Sunday with a ride on the rails and a trip to one of the most unworldly beautiful places in the country.

Board the delightful miniature Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway at the Hythe station for a unique steam railway trip that will satisfy all ages! Check their website for timetables and for special events throughout the year.

Hop off the train back at Dungeness, and get ready to explore the UK’s only desert. For those TV fanatics, why not explore the sites featured in Channel 4’s Grand Designs and Homes By The Sea, or HBO’s The Third Day starring Jude Law. Or venture to the looming Dungeness Power Station with its striking backdrop and unique landscape, and visit the visitor centre to enjoy its interactive exhibition.

The Dungeness National Nature Reserve is a Special Conservation Area, home to 600 species of plants so you can explore the shingle landscape, plants, insects, spiders and migratory birds. If you are feeling more active, why not climb up Dungeness Lighthouse for incredible views of this beguiling location.

When hunger strikes, make a beeline to the family-run Dungeness Snack Shack for delicious fresh beach food made from the catch of the day. Trust us – try a Dungeness crab roll.

The perfect end to a perfect weekend away.
