There may be less attractions in this area but what the North Downs might lack in quantity it makes up for with it’s sense of tranquility, heritage buildings and stunning scenery.

The North Down’s best bits…
The North Down’s celebrates heritage with a restored windmill, a restored railway, a huge WWII monument and even a recreation of a WWII trench!
Why not catch stunning views from the top of the downs and stroll through one of the quaint villages before enjoying a hearty pub lunch and maybe a glass or two at one (or both) of the local vineyards.
…and the biggest draw
The North Downs way, The Elham Valley way, the Royal Kentish Camino – the North Down’s has got some heavy hitters with satisfying multi day walks worth making time for.
There are also smaller trails like Lyminge Heritage trail that combine walking with discovering local heritage. You can always decide to do part of a long trail too. Bus transport between the villages is best planned ahead and there are advanced timetables available on the Stagecoach website.

- Vibrant Folkestone is the perfect counterpoint to the calm of the North Downs and is the end point for several walks.
- Hythe and Sandgate are full of history for those more heritage inclined.
- If it’s the off the beaten track experiences that really thrill you Romney Marsh – and particularly Dungeness (the UK’s only classified desert) will be right up your street.
