Six hotels in the coastal town of Folkestone, Kent, have teamed up to offer customers a 20% discount when booking a long stay, as an initiative to extend the summer season and appeal to cabin fever-struck homeworkers longing for a change of scene.

The ‘working staycation’ offer responds to the huge rise in people working from home and the current popularity of staycations. It allows workers to get a taste of what it might be like to live and work in Folkestone, an area popular for its coastal location, fast connections to London and Europe, and good value property prices.

Daniel Sangiuseppe of The Burlington Hotel, one of the hotels included in the deal said, “Our August bookings were healthy with people wanting to get to the coast following months of lockdown, but continuing that business is essential. We have been looking at imaginative ways to appeal to customers and extend the traditional season, and are thrilled to launch this Working Staycation offer.

“Hotels in their nature are great places to work, with excellent digital connectivity, desk space to work in rooms, and shared areas, like coffee lounges, which are suitable for working from safely too.”

Leader of Folkestone & Hythe District Council, Cllr David Monk, added, “With the current shift in working, the need for flexibility and a greater work life balance is most important now more than ever.

“We hope the Working Staycation offer will appeal to people who want to work from a fantastic location, while getting a taste of what it might be like to live and work in Folkestone in the long term – all without having to take annual leave. The offer will also appeal to those simply visiting the area and are after a great price for an extended hotel breakaway.”

Folkestone offers a great work life balance with its coastline, a great restaurant, café and street food scene, independent shops, galleries and cafes in the Creative Quarter, and attractions like the Folkestone Artworks, the Harbour Arm and Folkestone Museum.

Participating hotels include The Burlington Hotel, an historic cliff top property combining 19th century charm with 21st century amenities, and the Hythe Imperial, a 4-star luxury retreat with its own spa. All hotels within the Working Staycation offer are located around Folkestone and Hythe, and have starting rates to suit all budgets. The full list includes:
