FOLKESTONE – THE GREAT WAR AND THE ONE THAT FOLLOWED

Folkestone played a pivotal role in both World War I and World War II. Here is some of our history in those terrible conflicts

Said to be the fifth continent! A world apart, where sheep graze in fields separated by a maze of ditches, the horizon is punctuated with church towers, and the open skies and sense of solitude make it a truly unique and special place. Peaceful quiet and flat offering excellent walking and cycling, historic churches, a variety of special wildlife, and a distinctive coastline, from the shingle of Dungeness to the sandy expanse of Dymchurch.

The North Downs is a ridge of chalk hills, rising high above Folkestone and providing spectacular views across the countryside and out to sea. Great walking, cycling, and eating and drinking!
